Ulrich Schnauss | DNO47
A funny thing happened on the way out of the nightclub for electronic music. In a mad rush to push the envelope of technologic and rhythmic experimentation, melody has somehow become an afterthought. Which is what makes Ulrich Schnauss' music such a breath of fresh air, a serene marriage of solid songwriting and panoramic arrangements. With backward-glancing nods to the past, Schnauss has brilliantly combined the finest ambient electronics of Eno and Boards Of Canada with the textures of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive to create music of astounding emotional resonance that appeals to both camps simultaneously.
This 12" highlights tracks from across Ulrich's brief campaign. "...Passing By" has become the consensus favorite off Far Away Trains, being handpicked for inclusion in Cameron Crowe's Elizabethtown. The exquisite remix of "Monday Paracetemol" by Mojave 3 is exclusive to this release. "Wherever You Are" is a highlight from the rarities disc included in Domino's recent re-issue of Far Away Trains and "In All The Wrong Places" is on here because, well... it's just one of the most gorgeous songs Ulrich has ever written.
