Dirty Projectors | 10/23/12
David Longstreth unveiled a new Dirty Projectors song via Twitter this morning titled 'While You're Here', a tribute to the late Gerard Smith of TV On The Radio. The song is featured on the band's new About To Die EP, out Nov. 6th.
"Hey, here's a song I wrote on the day of Gerard Smith's wake in BK 2 summers ago. This song is for him. Miss u Gerry!" - Dave
Listen to the gorgeous track below and pre-order the 12" HERE. The EP features the Swing Lo Magellan standout single 'About To Die' plus 3 new songs. The 12inch comes with an MP3 downlaod of the EP plus two bonus tracks.
NIGHT MOVES 'COLORED EMOTIONS' OUT TODAY
Night Moves | 10/16/12
We're happy to announce that Night Moves' debut album Colored Emotions is out today! Pick it up from the Domino Mart, your local indie record store, any fine digital retailer, or from the band's merch table!
The band are currently on the road with Lord Huron and will play a sold out hometown release show tonight at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis. Full dates below.
Listen to 'Country Queen' below:
Here's what some fine folks have had to say about the album:
“The five-piece plays countrified rock with a freak-folk vocal style, and their organ and string arrangements spin their songs into mini-epics.” New Yorker
"cosmically expansive and yet twangily intimate" Spin
"The album's poppier tracks are woven together with songs that explore the band's capacity for atmosphere and mood, and the entire record sets one remarkably cohesive, hallucinatory tone." MPR's the Current
"has a psychedelic twist and controlled exuberance that shows off why Night Moves is an interesting band to keep on your radar. Guitars and synth soar to cosmic heights, but the vocals somehow remain down to earth" Magnet

DUCKTAILS ANNOUNCE 'THE FLOWER LANE,' LISTEN TO TITLE TRACK
Ducktails | 10/10/12
Ducktails, the increasingly less "solo" endeavour of Real Estate's Matt Mondanile, is set to release The Flower Lane, which is the project's fourth album and his first for Domino. Recorded and mixed over the summer of 2012 with Al Carlson (Peaking Lights, Oneohtrix Point Never), as Mondanile's hectic schedule as a concurrent member of Real Estate began to wind down after a year in support of their Domino debut album, Days, the ten track album will hit the streets on January 29th to be preceded by the single release of effervescent pop gem, ‘Letter of Intent’.
You can hear the title track, 'The Flower Lane' right now:
Taking a tangential turn away from solo home-recording of past releases toward the more collaborative environment of the studio, Ducktails' Matt Mondanile roped in close friends and colleagues to make something more adventurous yet easy-going. The ten songs on The Flower Lane move across a range of expressive pop songs that are bright and expansive, but venture even further with forays into saxophone leads, synth lines and piano accompaniment that would have been at home on the early records of sophisticated guitar pop icons such as Aztec Camera and Prefab Sprout.
With brooding seducers ‘Under Cover’, ‘The Flower Lane’ and ‘Sedan Magic’ along with a stunning cover of founding Clean/Chills member Peter Gutteridge's ‘Planet Phrom’, the ambient pop of The Flower Lane is, from start to finish, as spirited as the time these folks had recording it. Support came in many forms, from the backing of the New Jersey band Big Troubles to contributions from Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), Joel Ford (Ford + Lopatin), Madeline Follin (Cults) and Sam Mehran (Outer Limitz), to name a few, The Flower Lane defies the cliché of "embracing the big studio" by successfully making the songs feel immediate on an emotional level after they've passed through the dozen other wizardly minds of the studio collaboration while still conveying the fun they had working together.
One of the standouts on The Flower Lane is the duet between Future Shuttle's Jessa Farkas and Big Trouble's Ian Drennan on ‘Letter of Intent’. As with Felt's ‘Primitive Painters’, where the contrasting voices of Lawrence Hayward and Cocteau Twin Elizabeth Fraser exchange pained verses or with Tom Petty's seductively plodding collaboration with former Eurythmic Dave Stewart on his synth-driven hit ‘Don't Come Around Here No More’, ‘Letter Of Intent’ is proof of the expanding range of Ducktails' song craft.

ULRICH SCHNAUSS ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM 'A LONG WAY TO FALL;' LISTEN TO TITLE TRACK
Ulrich Schnauss | 10/09/12
German-born electronic artist Ulrich Schnauss is set to release his long-awaited new album, A Long Way To Fall, on Domino in North America and his own Scripted Realities imprint in the rest of the world in early 2013. His fourth album, A Long Way To Fall returns to the punchier rhythms and pronounced lead work of his landmark album, A Strangely Isolated Place, while incorporating some new textures and sounds from his earlier sonic explorations.
Schnauss explains:
Throughout the last decade, I recorded three albums that were trying to translate the early 90's shoegaze aesthetic into an electronic context. After finishing the last album, Goodbye, I felt a need for a change of direction. At the same time, my music taste was changing drastically. While I had spent a couple of years mainly listening to songwriting based music (a lot of 'indie'/band-type stuff), I was now rediscovering my love for electronic music based on more open structures. This provided the main inspiration of trying to record an album that would celebrate the synthesizer as the very capable musical instrument that it is, but without the need to disguise it behind a wall of echo and reverb. What satisfies me the most about this album is that I think I've managed to create a record that has a coherent, cohesive narrative.

DIRTY PROJECTORS UNVEIL 'HI CUSTODIAN' FILM
Dirty Projectors | 09/07/12
HI CUSTODIAN, a Dirty Projectors short film featuring music from the band's critically acclaimed new album Swing Lo Magellan, premiered last night at New York City's prestigious Landmark Sunshine Cinema. The film, directed by Dave Longstreth himself and produced in collaboration with Pitchfork, is now available to view exclusively on Pitchfork.TV x YouTube. Watch it now:
Songwriter-director Longstreth described the film as "made out of a dream," adding, "it was so fun getting into these alternate personas, inhabiting them, and I think we came up with some amazing images."
HI CUSTODIAN stars band members David Longstreth, Amber Coffman, Haley Dekle, Nat Baldwin, and Mike Johnson. It was filmed over the course of five days in late April in several locations in Southern California. Inspired by music films like Kanye West's Runaway and Prince's Purple Rain, it follows band members as they inhabit a variety of characters in a surreal narrative about spiritual death and rebirth. Amber plays a lost and lonely searcher. David plays a yōkai, a shapeshifting undead spirit from Japanese folklore. Nat plays a truck driver as well as a newborn child. Amber and Haley also feature as girls from the British Midlands, as well as sister Fates in an unindividuated dyad.
The film features several recordings and alternate versions of songs from Swing Lo Magellan including "Offspring Are Blank", "About to Die", "Gun Has No Trigger", "See What She Seeing", "The Socialites" and "Just From Chevron" in addition to other new and unreleased music from the album sessions.

CLINIC ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM: 'FREE REIGN'
Clinic | 08/22/12
Good news everyone! The wonderful Clinic are set to release their seventh album Free Reign on November 13th. Produced by the band themselves in their hometown of Liverpool and mixed with the assistance of Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), Free Reign is an extremely apt title for a particularly bold and assured new transmission from planet Clinic.
In the fifteen years since the release of the irrepressible band's debut EP, Ade Blackburn and co. have essentially delivered an exquisite masterclass in fearless singularity. The junkshop-trawling analogue fetishism of the warm, smoky instrumentation that gives their songs such a vividly placeable sense of mood and atmosphere; the surrealist bent of Blackburn's lyrics - so steeped in their own personal mythology - and the band's over-riding commitment to never straying into the realm of the obvious or complacent are all long-standing elements of Clinic's work that are furthered, perfected even, on Free Reign.
Free Reign neither turns its back on the direction of its predecessor, Bubblegum, nor seeks to revisit it verbatim, instead incorporating the simple, childlike melodies and spacious nature of the former whilst being at the same time as powerful, visceral and rhythmically charged as anything the band have ever recorded.
Free Reign will not only be available on the usual formats - CD, LP and digital download - but also on limited edition UFO format, in the form of an exclusive, glow-in-the-dark, cosmic flying disc which comes with the album download code (ie, a pretty nifty Frisbee). PRE ORDER THE ALBUM HERE!
The tracklisting for Free Reign is as follows:
- Misty
- See Saw
- Seamless Boogie Woogie BBC2 10pm (rpt)
- Cosmic Radiation
- Miss You
- For the Season
- King Kong
- You
- Sun and the Moon
Stay tuned for details of the first single and live dates - they're on the way soon!
In the meantime, listen to an album sampler below:
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE TODAY'S SUPERNATURAL VIDEO & CENTIPEDE HZ ALBUM STREAM
Animal Collective | 08/19/12
Hot on the heels of the news that Animal Collective will be streaming their brand new album Centipede Hz in full on Animal Collective Radio at 9PM EST Sunday night is the release of the video for the first single, "Today's Supernatural".
Directed by longtime Animal Collective collaborator Danny Perez (ODDSAC, Summertime Clothes, Who Could Win A Rabbit), the video was filmed on location at the salt flats of El Mirage, CA and stars band member Avey Tare alongside a giant piñata head.
Why not watch it now?
And don't forget to tune in to Animal Collective radio on Sunday night, which will feature Geologist's radio show followed immediately by the album premiere. Geologist describes his mix as follows:
"My show is actually a version of a mix I made for Ben Allen (Centipede Hz Producer) before we went into the studio. He asked us for a list of songs that we might reference in terms of sound and vibe so he could understand how we wanted the album to sound. We put together a list of songs that either encompassed the overall sound and vibe, or just had specific things we liked, such as drums sounds, or vocal effects. Rather than just send him each song, I thought it'd be fun to make transitions in between each track and sequence it out into 4 separate continuous hypothetical LP sides, which is what we were thinking for the sequencing of our album. For the final show of AC Radio we thought it'd be cool to play this inspirational mix and the album back to back."
Animal Collective Radio, a partnership with The Creators Project, has broadcast live over the last three weeks featuring shows hosted by Panda Bear, Avey Tare and Deakin. The transmissions also featured a variety of guest DJs sets including Atlas Sound, Haunted Graffiti, Black Dice, Pantha Du Prince as well as brand new solo music by Panda Bear and Avey Tare. We're really excited to share the 'True Thrush' video from Dan Deacon's forthcoming album, America, out Aug 28th, 2012.
The video co-directed by Ben O’Brien and Dan Deacon (making his directorial debut) is based on a drawing game popular in the Baltimore art collective Wham City, which is in turn based on the game “telephone.”
Deacon’s concept for the video is loosely related to the lyrics, and mirrors his use of asymmetrical repetition and evolving patterns. For the video, Dan and Ben filmed a simple 13-second scene. That scene was then shown to the next team. After seeing the video that team had 1 hour to recreate it -- characters, props, set, costumes, and actions -- as close to exactly as possible from only their memory.
With each new team the scene evolves. The energy begins to amplify and the chaos increases due to the distorting tendency of memory. The beauty of the video is in the completed arc, an arc that only exists because each team was blind to it. More details on the video are listed below.
Deacon has also announced additional shows as part of the America tour in Baltimore, New York City, Athens, and Florida. See the entire list of tour dates at Dan Deacon's site.
The cast is made up of members of Wham City, Dan Deacon Ensemble, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, Future Islands, Red Room Collective, Copycat Theater, Effervescent Dance Collective, Showbeast, Annex Theater, Nuclear Power Pants, FlucT, BXDC, Bloody Panda, Foot Talk, Important Comics, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and various icons of the legendary Baltimore Arts Community.

NIGHT MOVES ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM 'COLORED EMOTIONS'; SHARE
Night Moves | 06/29/12

Following the news of the Minneapolis' band signing to Domino, we're happy to announce the release of their debut album Colored Emotions out October 9.
The band has quickly made their way to the head of the Twin Cities music scene, landing the cover story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune describing them as a “slow-grooving, neo-twangy, cosmically-baked band”, as well as being named the area’s “Best New Band” by Minneapolis City Pages.
Night Moves--John Pelant (guitars/vocals), Micky Alfano (bass) and Mark Ritsema (multi-instrumentalist)--grew up together in the Twin Cities and spent their younger years rotating in and out of one another's musical orbits. The trio reconvened in 2009 to form Night Moves and began recording and building a fervent local following of fans and media alike.
The band joined producer/mixer Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Beachwood Sparks, Devendra Banhart) in Los Angeles by way of their first appearances at South By Southwest to tighten and brighten the ten-track album, which the band had begun on their own before signing to Domino earlier this year. The first taste of the collaboration with Monahan comes in the form of the single “Headlights.” Stream and download it below.
The band also has a number of tour dates set for this summer, leading up to the release of Colored Emotions.
07-07 Des Moines, IA - 80/35 Festival
07-13 Madison, WI - The Terrace at UW-Madison (w/ Wild Nothing)
07-14 Chicago, IL - Schubas (w/ Father John Misty)
07-17 Iowa City, IA - Gabe's Oasis (w/ Cloud Nothings)
07-21 Minneapolis, MN - First Ave (w/ Jeremy Messersmith and Greycoats)
07-30 Minneapolis, MN - Loring Park Music and Movies
08-11 Stillwater, MN - Square Lake Film & Music Festival
DAN DEACON ANNOUNCES TOUR; 'AMERICA' PRE-ORDER; AND FLAG PHOTO CONTEST!
Dan Deacon | 06/13/12
Having recently announced his forthcoming album, America, out August 28th (North America) / August 27th (Rest of the world), Dan Deacon is set to head out on a major headlining North American tour this autumn, performing with his streamlined ensemble of two drummers -- Jeremy Hyman of Boredoms, Ponytail; Kevin O'Meara of Videohippos -- with America producer Chester Endersby Gwazda joining Dan on electronics.
Dan Deacon shows are renowned for the spectacle of hundreds, even thousands, of jubilant people doing coordinated movement. It's a sight to behold, but it's even more amazing to participate. And for Deacon, what is ostensibly just "fun" started to take on a profound dimension since the release of 2009's Bromst, of people uniting and claiming physical space in an ecstatic act of empowerment. He saw a metaphor in there, a connection with recent movements like the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street. America is the soundtrack of that realization - ecstatic, celebratory sounds in conjunction with thematically darker undercurrents.
See the entire list of tour dates at Dan Deacon's site.

WATCH THE NEW DIRTY PROJECTORS VIDEO: GUN HAS NO TRIGGER
Dirty Projectors | 06/08/12
Here is something to provide some color and beauty to your Friday morning/afternoon. Yes, in support of Swing Lo Magellan, Dirty Projectors' new album out July 10th, the band has unveiled a stunning video for lead single "Gun Has No Trigger". The video also David Longstreth's directorial debut.
Have a watch right here, and then afterwards we have a few thoughts from the man himself about the video.
GUN HAS NO TRIGGER is about the possibility for true dissent, and how I can't figure
out what that could be. What is a 2012 Exodus from the Society of the Spectacle (to mix
language Situationist and Rastafari)?
So we made a video from the iconography of the default profile image used by Facebook
and Gmail, and also the look of the classic Apple iPod commercials.
The colors in the background are the ones I think of when I hear the harmonies of Amber
and Haley (via experimental synesthesia).
Enjoy!!
DAVID LONGSTRETH
The band is set to perform “Gun Has No Trigger” for the first ever on Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon on June 19th, which coincides with the release of the limited edition “Gun Has No Trigger" Tablet Of Values vinyl single. The 8" square 200gm thick tablet features the single on the A side and an etching of the song's lyrics translated into Sumerian Akkadian Cuneiform by Dr. M. Willis Monroe on the B side. An exclusive pre-order is available on the Domino Mart in limited supply: dominorecordco.com/swinglomagellan

SHOOT TO KILL(S) - ALISON & JAMIE RELEASE LUXURY PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK
The Kills | 06/07/12
Yes, it's something to file in the "oh man it's beautiful I must own it" category - The Kills are releasing a truly awe-inspiring photography book made up of a selection of wonderful images taken by friend and longtime collaborator, Kenneth Cappello. It's out on September 4th in North America and it's called Dream and Drive. It documents over nine years of the band's career and captures Alison and Jamie in their most playful, private, intense and intimate moments, both onstage and off as they conquer the world city at a time. Dream and Drive also includes a foreword written by Alison Mosshart herself.
"I have a lot of love for those great flea-pits and cock-eyed stages of America in Kenneth's pictures. We played on just about every one of them with their chewed-gum carpets that glued your feet down every time you tried to dance. Who'd have thought those cesspits could conjure up any magic? Of secret society proportions? We got over excited by everything back then. Everything. Even the crisps seemed exciting. Every night we'd let our heads fly way up into the clouds, dreaming we were super human and that our little band could go anywhere we wanted it to.. And then bang back down to ground level at the next soundcheck with a one-eyed speaker cabinet and a dressing room wall covered in scribbled cocks. They turned out to be palaces of the supernatural those clubs, where your life could be changed one night, with nothing more than a knackered Fender Twin and a pair of disintegrating jeans. I'd forgotten it was really like that until we started on this book..." J. Hince
"These are photos of locomotion. Silent visions of things turned up past their load. The tremble of the nightclub, the dive of backstage temporaries, electricity flung like paint through space, the FACE, the posture, the vehicle that hounds the road, sweats. I know when we're looking straight on, we're looking straight through. And I suppose it's the drift and swing, that shows you who you are, and that music is a force and really is, all it's cracked up to be. These photos make me remember everything." A. Mosshart
Kenneth and The Kills' worlds collided in 2003; both in Paris, The Kills were shooting scenes for the film 'I Hate The Way You Love' in the basement of a clothing store, Kenneth and his camera happened to be hanging out and shot photos of the band as they worked. From Paris to Coney Island, from the Chelsea Hotel to out onto the road, so began their time together. Kenneth is truly part of The Kills family and since then, has taken over 600 rolls of film of Jamie and Alison.
Photography has been a inherent part of The Kills' DNA since its conception ten years ago. From photo-booth laden artwork, to photographing their own magazine shoots; from exhibiting their own extensive polaroid collection, to setting up photo-booths for fans at their recent New York show - the band are renowned for their passion and involvement in arts other than music.
The fourth album Blood Pressures, released last year, found The Kills delivering their vivid and uniquely gritty post-blues, but with a new level of thoughtfulness and depth not yet explored by the duo. An album tinged with wistfulness and vulnerability, it has an enduring sense of intricacy and richness that intensely blends with their ever-compelling songwriting.
The Kills US Tour Dates
- August 10-12 San Francisco, CA @ Outside Lands
- August 13 Los Angeles, CA @ Mayan Theatre
- August 14 Los Angeles, CA @ Mayan Theatre
DAN DEACON ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM 'AMERICA'; DOWNLOAD 'LOTS'
Dan Deacon | 05/29/12
We're very proud to announce the release of Dan Deacon's new album, America, out August 28th (North America) / August 27th (Rest of the world).
The culmination of years spent playing both DIY venues and concert halls across the world, of exercises in the power of the individual and a coordinated mass, of a disenfranchised mind questioning notions of cultural identity and values, America is a study in density.
The album is a portrait of anger, confusion, and apocalyptic anxiety over corporatism and war, but one that finds consolation in the geography of the United States and in recent social movements both domestic and international. Never have such bleak lyrics been framed by such ecstatic, celebratory sounds.
There's a subtler approach to timbre on America, informed by Deacon's recent experiences in the classical world -- commissions and collaborations, his Carnegie Hall debut; his first film score (for a Francis Ford Coppola film). The integration of acoustic textures -- including concert percussion, winds, brass, and strings -- has ramped up exponentially since Deacon first ventured outside of purely synthesized sound on 2009’s Bromst.
The most raw cut from the album, 'Lots', seems a fitting introduction to a collection of songs that sit at the intersection of noise, pop, dance and chamber music. Filled with the struggle and opportunity rampant in Deacon's America, Lots’ lyrics bounce between a post-apocalyptic world influenced by Cormac McCathy’s The Road and a call not to lose sight of the current movements that aim to change a broken system.

One of the very best electronic albums of last decade, Max Tundra's Mastered By Guy at The Exchange is a solid-gold smash that I would instantly recommend to you if I didn't know that you hip and well-informed cats already owned and loved it.
But why mention this now? Well, as some of you may have figured out from the descriptive title of this news piece, Max has donated the original painting used as the cover art for the album to a charity auction aiming to raise money for awesome freeform non-commercial New Jersey radio station WFMU.
So why not head on over to the eBay page and make a bid? But first, enjoy the video for Lysine, a single from that album, just because:

STEVE REID
Steve Reid Ensemble | 04/13/12
Today, April 13th, marks the second anniversary of Steve Reid's passing and we wanted to celebrate his legacy by sharing some musical highlights from his life.
Steve Reid was a giant of a drummer, who began playing professionally at the age of 16. His first recorded work was with Martha And The Vandellas, working in the Apollo Theatre House band, under the direction of Quincy Jones. Over the years Steve recorded and played with artists such as Miles Davies, Fela Kuti, James Brown and Sun Ra, amongst other musical legends.
Domino had the pleasure of releasing The Steve Reid Ensemble’s Daxaar album in 2007 and Steve’s groundbreaking works with Kieran Hebden, the albums The Exchange Session Vol. 1, The Exchange Session Vol. 2, Tongues and their final collaboration NYC.
Kieran and Steve's musical partnership produced a stunning series of albums. Here's what Kieran had to say at the time of Steve's death: "Steve was one of my great friends and the most wonderful musician I have ever encountered. The music and adventures we shared have been some of the most happy and meaningful experiences I’ve ever had. A true inspiration. He lived a great life and gave us incredible music. I’ll miss him forever."
Two years on he is sorely missed.
Here's a playlist of some of his greatest musical moments:

DIRTY PROJECTORS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM 'SWING LO MAGELLAN'
Dirty Projectors | 04/02/12
All of us here at Domino are super-excited to announce Dirty Projectors' highly anticipated sixth album, Swing Lo Magellan on July 9th in the UK and Europe and July 10th in North America.
With Swing Lo Magellan, David Longstreth shows he really doesn't know how to do the same thing twice. This time, beyond the aughts-era duality of retromania and neophilia, and beyond his band's reputation for dizzying, heady innovation, Longstreth has found the beautiful, generous simplicity of the heart and soul. Same as it ever was. And this must be exactly the place where he's planted the seeds for his band's finest album to date.
And you are able to enjoy the fruitful bounty of those seeds: the first track to be made available from the record, "Gun Has No Trigger" is available to stream right now:
Download "Gun Has No Trigger" on iTunes / Stream on Spotify
Where prior DPz albums investigated 20th-century orchestration (The Getty Address), aerated the aesthetics of 80s hardcore and west African guitar music (Rise Above), and explored complex contrapuntal techniques in human voices (Bitte Orca and Mt Wittenberg Orca), Swing Lo Magellan is a leap forward again.
"It's an album of songs, an album of songwriting," says Longstreth.
The songs of Swing Lo Magellan are culled from a sprawling twelve months of constant writing and recording in a weird house in Delaware County, New York (four hours northwest of the city). Longstreth, who produced and mixed, wrote seventy new songs and beats. The band - Amber Coffman (vocals & guitar), Nat Baldwin (bass), Brian McOmber (drums) & Haley Dekle (vocals) (vocalist Angel Deradoorian is on hiatus) - joined him periodically, rehearsing the new music more or less constantly in the house's A-frame attic
The twelve songs of Swing Lo Magellan were winnowed down from about forty finished demos. The finished recordings bear the impress of this informal working style: the album is a collection of moments: accidental, fortuitous, spontaneous. The performances feel warm and imperfect. Unguarded intimacy is somewhat of a new look for this band, and it turns out it's a very good look.
Here's the tracklist:
1. Offspring Are Blank
2. About to Die
3. Gun Has No Trigger
4. Swing Lo Magellan
5. Just From Chevron
6. Dance For You
7. Maybe That Was It
8. Impregnable Question
9. See What She Seeing
10. The Socialites
11. Unto Caesar
12. Irresponsible Tune
And finally, here are a couple of tour dates, because you deserve it:
July 10 - Brooklyn NY - Prospect Park Bandshell
July 13-15 (exact date TBA) - Chicago IL - Pitchfork Festival

NIGHT MOVES SIGN TO DOMINO
Night Moves | 03/09/12
We're very pleased to announce the latest American addition to the Domino family, the Minneapolis cosmic groovers, Night Moves.
To begin, the group will be spending the springtime touring the US as well as preparing their first release for Domino, a 7" single for "Headlights" b/w "Horses." Said single can be previewed here:
Prior to the release of "Headlights", the band will be playing a number of dates on a mini-tour that will take them to South By Southwest, the annual musical proving ground where many T&E accounts, breakfast tacos and bands are consumed. From there, they will trek across the desert Southwest for select dates and to complete work on their debut album with producer/mixer Thom Monaghan (Vetiver, Beachwood Sparks, The Lilys) in Los Angeles, California and then eastward for select dates with the Brooklyn-based Caveman.
In the band's own words, "break out the Michael McfuckingDonald and the bud, the boys are going on tour:"
Here are the dates:
3/9 - Lawrence, KS Jackpot Saloon with Ava Luna
3/10 - Norman, OK Opolis with The Hood Internet, Class Actress
3/11 - Houston, TX Fitzgeralds with Oberhofer, Pond

4/10 - Columbus, OH The Basement with Caveman
4/11 - Ann Arbor, MI Bling Pig with Caveman
4/12 - Chicago, IL Schuba's with Caveman
The core members, guitarist/lead vocalist John Pelant, bassist Mickey Alfano and multi-instrumentalist Mark Ritsema, grew up together in the Twin Cities and spent their younger years rotating in and out of one another's musical orbits. After a couple of promising false starts, the trio re-coalesced in 2009 in earnest as Night Moves (Gene Hackman or Bob Seger? Only the shadow knows) and began recording and building a fervent local following of fans and media alike.
Colored Emotions will be released in the waning days of the summer of 2012 on Domino.

HOT CHIP'S NEW ALBUM IN YOUR HEADS VERY SOON!
Hot Chip | 03/01/12

We're very proud to announce a stunning addition to the Domino family: Hot Chip will be releasing their highly anticipated fifth album, In Our Heads on Domino. Having put out consistently awesome records since 2004, we're sure you've been waiting with bated breath to hear what they're up to. Well, you won't have much longer to wait at all - the album will be released on LP, CD and digitally on June 12th.
Recorded in London and produced by the band themselves (with additional production and engineering by Mark Ralph), In Our Heads is the band’s follow up to 2010's intoxicating and singular One Life Stand and their first LP for Domino.
Anyone who has listened to Hot Chip's output over the greater part of a decade can testify to the enormous collective talent of band members Joe Goddard, Alexis Taylor, Felix Martin, Al Doyle and Owen Clarke. They will also have noted how the band refuses to stand still, constantly evolving their sound to include a diverse mix of soul, R&B, gospel, Detroit House, disco and funk while maintaining an instantly identifiable and unquestionably unique "Hot Chip sound".
In Our Heads is an unadultered delight of an album bursting with dynamic dancefloor-movers, instant yet enduring hooks and verbose synth-fuelled love songs and fully cements Hot Chip's position as the world’s most talented electro-romantics.
Here's the tracklisting:
1. Motion Sickness
2. How Do You Do
3. Don't Deny Your Heart
4. Look At Where We Are
5. These Chains
6. Night And Day
7. Flutes

9. Ends Of The Earth
10. Let Me Be Him
11. Always Been Your Love
