Love Songs For Robots, the highly anticipated fifth record from Patrick Watson, will be released on May 12th via Domino. Love Songs For Robots is the follow up to Watson’s 2012 release Adventures In Your Own Backyard, which received widespread critical acclaim— Consequence of Sound calls it “Larger than life,” while Q Magazine hails “Sublime,” and Uncut adds “Confidently ambitious.”
Listen to the title track from the album below now. In addition, Watson just released a teaser for the album, which includes the track ‘In Circles,’ watch HERE.
The new music was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Pierre Marchand Studio in Montreal. Of the record, some of which was debuted at private concerts in small loft spaces, Watson explains,
“I started thinking about things in a very mechanical way. I found it interesting how we would use our senses to come up with an emotional reaction. As I get older you get to know yourself better and I realized that a lot of my emotional reactions were mechanical responses and that was hugely influential. I didn’t want to be a robot. But the reason why we are superior to computers is that we have emotions and I realized that emotions are mechanical so the only thing left between us and robots is curiosity and inspiration - and I don’t think you can program that into a computer. That’s definitely where I was at when I started writing the record.”
Raised and still living in Montreal, Watson has composed 15 scores for both film and television, including a trailer for The Walking Dead and Wim Wenders’ new 3D film Everything Will Be Fine, where he performed the songs ‘Cynical World’ (an original for the film) and ‘Lighthouse’. The recipient of Canada’s elite Polaris Music Prize in 2007, Watson composes, performs and records his albums with a full band that includes Joe Grass (guitars), Robbie Kuster (drums/percussion) and Mishka Stein (bass).
'Love Songs For Robots' Tracklisting 1. Love Songs for Robots 2. Good Morning Mr. Wolf 3. Bollywood 4. Hearts 5. Grace 6. In Circles 7. Turn Into The Noise 8. Alone In This World 9. Know That You Know 10. Places You Will Go

Bandleader and soul visionary Matthew E. White has shared a video for 'Rock & Roll Is Cold', the first full single from Fresh Blood, his new album for Domino, out March 10th.
The beautifully shot clip follows Matthew as he traverses various semi-surreal terrains, ultimately embarking on a joyride to an exquisite banquet in a video that's as playful and charming as the tune itself.
Matthew says: "This video was about highlighting and making use of pre-existing beauty and grandeur. The images I wanted were John Ford's America - part Badlands, part Bonnie and Clyde.
To that end, I used a team in Salt Lake City known much more for shooting spectacular outdoor shots than any music videos. That was really fresh for me, not to mention extraordinarily physically challenging at times - but these guys are world traveling, mountain climbing pros and brought out the tremendous beauty of the landscape we shot in.
Not to mention the extraordinary beauty of my lady, Miss Merry George. Mirroring the family involvement of the Fresh Blood album cover (shot at my Grandma’s house in Alabama) the final scene of this was shot at my Aunt’s house. It’s nice to keep the family involved when you can."
Fresh Blood will be available on CD, vinyl, and via digital download. There is also a special edition of the album, which is a double LP gatefold heavyweight vinyl containing a bonus LP titled Fresh Blood: No Skin – a full length minimalist mix of the entire album, minus strings/horns or choir. You can pre-order Fresh Blood via iTunes or DomMart.
Bob Moses, the duo comprised of Jimmy Vallance and Tom Howie, release All In All, a collection of their previously released singles. The 11 songs on All In All encompass the duo’s output to date, combining their 2 previous EP releases on Scissor & Thread, and the recent A/B side on Domino, I Ain’t Gonna Be The First To Cry / Grace.
The band have also shared the video for single ‘I Ain’t Gonna Be The First To Cry’. Directed by Gene Doe, the video is an evocatively filmed meditation on youth and beauty, and can be watched below. The ethereal, dreamlike quality of the video is accentuated by the rarely used “slit scan” filming technique famously used in 2011: A Space Odyssey during the “star gate” sequence.
All In All is available via iTunes and Spotifynow. The vinyl version of All In All will be available as a Record Store Day exclusive on April 18globally. The CD version will be available on Tuesday April 21. Pre-order it via Dom Mart HERE.

Ahead of the release of his forthcoming album, Gliss Riffer, out February 24, 2015, Dan Deacon has shared 'Learning to Relax.' Listen to it below. It follows the release of the Andrew Jeffrey directed video for Gliss Riffer opening track 'Feel The Lightning.'
"Learning to Relax", a live favorite that took shape while being performed on the road last year in support of Arcade Fire, is yet another exploration of Deacon's newfound appreciation of tracks featuring predominate vocal melodies. It's one of the many songs on Gliss Riffer reveling in equal parts exuberant uncontained good times as well as dramatic flair. The same could be said for the "Learning to Relax" animation created by Alan Resnick, as described by the creator himself: "Two parallel columns of cubes are colored with complementary gradients. The cubes oscillate at faster and faster rates, which create the optical illusion of color mixing within elaborate visual patterns."
Deacon has also announced a North American April/May 2015 tour that will follow several sold out release week shows later this month in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. See a live stream of Deacon's set from Boiler Room in London next Tuesday, February 17th, at 2pm EST. More info here. All tour dates are listed below.

Darling Arithmetic is the third album from Villagers, released on April 14th 2015. Thefollow-up to Conor O’Brien’sdebut, Becoming a Jackal, andits successor, Awayland - both hugely acclaimed and Mercury-nominated - is a breathtakingly beautiful, intimate album entirely about love and relationships.
Darling Arithmetic was written, recorded, produced and mixed by O’Brien at home - the loft of a converted farmhouse that he shares in the coastal town of Malahide to the north of Dublin - revealing a single-minded artist at the peak of his already considerable songwriting powers. It encompasses the various shades of feeling – desire, obsession, lust, loneliness and confusion, and deeper into philosophical and existential territory, across a cast of lovers, friends, family and even strangers. Backing up his supple and emoting vocal and guitar is the subtlest palate of instrumentation – piano, Mellotron (which accounts for the album’s occasional horn and cello tones) and brushes. O’Brien plays every instrument on these exquisite, melodic songs in a sparse, spacious, acoustic-leaning fashion.
On Darling Arithmetic, O’Brien doesn’t only pare back his use of language but looks deep into his own heart and motives. The opening track and first single, ‘Courage’, concerns the most important kind of love – for yourself: “It took a little time to get where I wanted / It took a little time to get free / It took a little time to be honest / It took a little time to be me.”
Watch the accompanying video directed by Niall Cullinane and Sean Leonard , below.
Now three albums in, Villagers is the front for playfulness and seriousness, mystery and revelation, an open-ended and flexible beast that can be anything its creator wants it to be. By going back to the root of songwriting, O’Brien has reinvented himself.
Darling Arithmetic will be available on CD (WIGCD330), LP (WIGLP330) and Digital (WIG330D). Pre-order the album on CD or LP through Domino Mart HERE and digitally through iTunes HERE. The digital pre-order comes with an instant download of ‘Courage’.

The hallucinatory yet heartfelt video for Panda Bear’s ‘Boys Latin’ premiered today via Adult Swim. You can watch it below or here.
The ‘Boys Latin’ video was directed by Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch, the duo behind videos for Bjork's ‘Wanderlust’ and Grizzly Bear's ‘Knife’. Their SF-based studio, Encyclopedia Pictura, animated the video in 3D over the course of 4 months. The story of a young woman out for a hike along a coastal tide pool turns unreal when her encounter with a sea anemone triggers a phantasmagorical reaction. She meets a man who seems to be in a similar predicament, and together they start a family of sorts.
Director Isaiah Saxon explained it this way: "We tried hard to bring out the vibe of that alternating melody that Noah is singing. We wondered what that should look and feel like from a synesthesia perspective. We've always believed that shapes and forms themselves have emotional meaning. For example, round things are often cute and non-threatening, while spiky things usually seem dangerous. We ran with that idea by creating these dynamic forms that grow out of our characters as they deal with their emotions."
Panda Bear Tour Dates 03-04 London, UK - Brixton Electric 03-05 Brussels, BE - L’Orangerie 03-06 Paris, FR - Gaité Lyrique 08-08 Zeewolde, NL - Where The Wild Things Are Festival 03-10 Berlin, DE - Certain People @ Berghain 03-11 Lisbon, PT - Teatro Maria Matos 03-12 Braga, PT - GNRation

Gliss Riffer, the new album from Dan Deacon, will be out February 24, 2015 (North America) / February 23, 2015 (rest of the world).
Gliss Riffermarks new territory for Deacon who, following up on the release of his large ensemble-based recordings - 2009’s Bromst and 2012’s America - decided to return to a simpler way of writing and recording, similar to that of 2007’s Spiderman of the Rings, which has resulted in this self-produced album.
Despite being predominately electronic, Gliss Riffer’s sonic palette is informed by his post-Spiderman of the Rings material. The Disklavier, a MIDI-fed player piano first heard on Bromst, is present here. Cross-rhythms suggestive of America’s orchestral songs and Deacon’s art music work (including a Carnegie Hall performance and film score for Francis Ford Coppola) are also in evidence. While Gliss Riffer may contain all the instrumental layering we’ve come to expect, this album also marks a newfound appreciation for Deacon’s own vocals, as evidenced on the lead track ‘Feel the Lightning.’ Yes, the female voice is Deacon too.
Watch the Andrew Jeffrey Wright of All Ages Production-directed video for ‘Feel The Lightning’ below or here.
Gliss Riffer will be available on CD, LP, and digitally. A special pre-order, as pictured below, is available now through Domino Mart that includes a limited edition red color vinyl (limited to 777) and a limited edition 12” inflatable hand that features the Gliss Riffer hand from the album cover. On March 10, Richmond, Virginia-based singer, songwriter, bandleader, and musical polymath, Matthew E. White will release Fresh Blood, the follow-up to his debut, Big Inner. Produced by White and Spacebomb partner Trey Pollard, and mixed by Pat Dillett (David Byrne, Nile Rodgers), Fresh Blood marks the next chapter of White’s Richmond, VA-based Spacebomb -- an analog studio, record label and production house with in-house strings, horns and a choir at his behest. Fresh Blood is a bracing, beguiling record and a bold advance for White - a record that feels like the brilliant bloom to Big Inner’s striking bud. White has also confirmed 2 very different but complimentary launch shows, the first at Brooklyn’s BRIC House on March 3, where he’ll premiere Fresh Blood with a 30-piece orchestra and the second is a special intimate solo album release show at St Luke’s in London on March 10(which mirrors the Fresh Blood; No Skin version of the album detailed below).
Watch the new trailer, which was filmed in Super 8 and features a clip of the song "Tranquility", a tribute to actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, here.
To backtrack, briefly: In 2009, White and his friends established Spacebomb to turn the tunes of songwriters they liked into grandiose, graceful statements. To demonstrate the Spacebomb ideal, White and his wide cast of musicians - possessing a vast knowledge that could pivot from the gusto of New Orleans to the verve of Detroit, from tube-amp rock to hi-fi pop - recorded a few songs he’d pieced together and called it Big Inner, hoping to show other songwriters how the system would work. In the 18 months that followed the release, White toured America and Europe extensively, sharing the stage with St. Vincent, The National, The Mountain Goats, She & Him, among many others, and signed with Domino to release Big Inner worldwide. White played major festivals, including Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Primavera, and more, and Big Inner earned five stars in The Guardian and a spot on its year-end list, plus those of Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, and others. Uncut called it “one of the great albums of modern Americana,” and Paste deemed White’s ensemble as the #1 “Best New Band” of 2012.
If the first album had been serendipity, every step of Fresh Blood was to be deliberate, from his co-writing sessions with longtime friend and former bandmate Andy Jenkins to his steady arrangement brainstorms with the trusted Spacebomb house band—bassist Cameron Ralston, drummer Pinson Chanselle and guitarist Trey Pollard. Simultaneously recognizing the trouble and delight that life can bring, these 10 original new songs of Fresh Blood are guides for times of joy, agony and the middle distance where we most often linger.
Fresh Bloodwill be available on CD (WIGCD309), LP (WIGLP309) and via digital download (WIG309D)– there is also a special edition of the album, which is a deluxe double LP gatefold heavyweight vinyl (WIGLP309X) containing a bonus LP titled Fresh Blood: No Skin – a complete new full length minimalist mix of the full album, minus strings/horns or choir. You can pre-order Fresh Blood via iTunes and DomMart.
Fresh Blood tracklist: 01. Take Care My Baby 02. Rock & Roll Is Cold 03. Fruit Trees 04. Holy Moly 05. Circle ‘Round The Sun 06. Feeling Good Is Good Enough 07. Tranquility 08. Golden Robes 09. Vision 10. Love Is Deep

There is Hookworms live and then there is Hookworms on record. As the flood of acclaim around their second album The Hum testifies, both are equally thrilling sides of one coin. The Leeds five-piece mix power with finesse in the studio, each revolution of their visceral protopunk-wired repetition rock an exercise in nuance versus tumult. Onstage, though, they induce a form of sensory overload that brands black onto the brain. Directed by Sam Wiehl, their new video for “Radio Tokyo” captures the audio and visual intensity of the band, glottal stabs of light punctuating the darkness they shroud themselves in while performing. Watch the video for “Radio Tokyo” HERE.
Hookworms have also announced a slew of live dates, including their largest headline slots yet in the UK and a supporting show for Slowdive in London. The band is also making a long-awaited trip to the US next spring for their first proper run of shows since 2013’s debut at New York’s CMJ, where they were called one of the fest’s “most intense acts” by NPR with a live set that the New York Times called “one big, mutable wallop, angry and obsessive and euphoric.”

“A noisy, Technicolor, garage-rock nightmare . . . Hookworms have a knack for spanning several moods within a single song — juxtaposing raging screams with plaintive singing, garage rock riffs with staticky noise, danceable rhythms and pulseless drones.” Rolling Stone [Artist You Need To Know]
“Bass guitar and droning organ sounds connect the beat to the tendrils of noise and rip curls of guitar feedback and synth sounds that skim across the surfaces, before flying upward and outward, adjoining headier sounds with the sonic terror of heavy shoegaze . . . one false move, and these kids would blast through the roof of any venue foolhardy enough to think they could be contained.”NPR

Today Wild Beasts have shared a video for ‘Palace’, from Present Tense. The video was filmed by Alex Turvey. Singer Tom Fleming explains the concept behind the video:
‘The idea was to match the feel of a cheap game show with the content of a rather cruel psychological experiment. The content was unknown to us before the shoot; we were kept in a closed room until we were filmed, one by one, in a single take. What you see is us being introduced to the content for the first time and our genuine reactions to the objects and people involved. We wanted to make something that felt like an event and a sort of project, rather than what passes for a traditional music video.’
Present Tense – Special Edition, featuring the original album augmented by a bonus disc of remix material from artists including Factory Floor, Juan Atkins, Lone, East India Youth, Sohn as well as a brand new remix of ‘Palace’ from Foals, is available to purchase now.

Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks are proud to share the short film for ‘Catchy (Was Contagious),’ from their debut album ‘Enter The Slasher House’ released earlier this year. The tense, eerie 9 minute short is inspired by early black & white horror films, and finds its perfect soundtrack in the supernatural sounds of Slasher Flicks.
Watch the video below:
The video for ‘Catchy (Was Contagious)’ was directed by Abigail Portner, with Giovanni Ribisi working in the role of Director of Photography. It was shot in and around Atwater, Los Angeles, in August.
“I wanted to make a video that referenced old horror movies from the 1950s Universal horror era. I am obsessed with movies like The Third Man, Truffaut’s 400 Blows and Ingmar Bergman’s films. I wanted it to have the style of classic old LA so we used the LA river and the neighborhoods surrounding it as locations. The movie Them from the 1940s was shot on the LA river and I wanted it to have that feel also. Parts of Grease and Chinatown were filmed there too. The videos I make for Animal Collective and my own personal style is pretty specific so it was great to work with Giovanni because I feel like he just got it. We were on the same page thematically, reference-wise and with regards to the style of filming and our goal - to create something that has a classic, pretty 1950’s feel to it but the undertone is still very dark.” – Abigail Portner on ‘Catchy (Was Contagious)’
The short film will have its live premiere tonight, prior to Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks’ set at the Haunted Hotel Bash at the Ace Hotel, Los Angeles. In addition, the Halloween party will feature a screening of John Carpenter’s horror classic Halloween; DJ sets by Zach Cowie (Wooden Wisdom), Amason (Miike Snow), Clifton Weaver (Funky Sole), and Neil Schield (Origami Vinyl); and visuals by Abigail Portner. More info here.

There was a time where being a Go-Betweens fan meant to be part of an inadvertent secret club. To establish with a new acquaintance that common connection was a social and musical shorthand to understanding one another, that you’d met a worthy conversant at the least but quite possibly a lifelong friend as well. And it wasn’t willful elitism or snobbery: The Go-Betweens were "the secret" fans wanted to share with the world and continue to do so, even today. And I can’t help but think that it was this spirit of sharing and mutual respect between the band and their fans that inspired “The Grant McLennan Book Club”.
How this came to pass was that Grant’s books had been collected and stored since his passing in 2006. As we were getting into the thick of assembling G Stands For Go-Betweens Volume One, Grant’s son, Nathan, approached and asked Robert Forster what he thought should be done with the books. In a moment of inspiration, Robert wondered aloud how great it would be if we could actually share this collection with fans, like how you would give a good book to a friend after you’ve finished reading it, not necessarily worried about its return.
An idea was born and, with Nathan’s blessing and generosity, some 30-odd boxes began their journey from Queensland to the Domino warehouse in London. While there was no doubting Grant’s taste, we didn’t know what we were getting, to be honest. Cracking opening the boxes, we were pleased to find a number of surprises. Firstly, a good number of the books bore an inscription in the front pages, usually in the form of Grant’s signature along with the city and the date of the purchase. And then of course was the books themselves, a wide array of hardback first edition novels, paperbacks, poetry books, biographies, art folios… 1800 in all.
So, the first 600 folks that have ordered G Stands For Go-Betweens Volume One will be receiving one of these books, along with a bookmark signed by Robert Forster, ceremonially certifying the veracity of the books’ origins. There will be a forum for folks to congregate at www.go-betweens.net, share their box number, the book received with their box, and as much detail on the book you care to share, like any good book club should.
Now, some of you that are paying closer attention have probably noticed that while the offering was only for the first six hundred orders, that suspiciously leaves another 1200 books unspoken for. What’s the deal? I suppose you’re going to have to wait and see what’s to come after Volume One.

The Domino Recording Company is honoured to announce the upcoming release of an extraordinary anthology for one of the most beloved and influential Australian groups of all-time, The Go-Betweens. G Stands ForGo-Betweens Volume One extensively documents the band’s origins in an ambitious box containing four vinyl albums, four compact discs and an extensive 112-page book, featuring a trove of archival photos and extensive historical liner notes from founding member Robert Forster, along with additional pieces from guest essayists, fans and contemporaries.
The box set captures the band’s output from 1978 through 1984 and includes the first vinyl re-pressings of their first three studio albums in over thirty years (Send Me A Lullaby, Before Hollywood & Spring HillFair), all re-mastered from the original analogue tapes. G Stands For Go-Betweens also brings together their early classic and collectible singles together on a fourth vinyl LP entitled The First Five Singles featuring new artwork from its creators. Additionally, the set comes with four compact discs of rare, hard-to-find and unreleased demos, recordings, radio sessions and a complete live concert radio broadcast from 1982. If that’s not enough, the set comes with a silkscreen of their first promotional poster for their debut single, “Lee Remick", as well as a reproduction of their very first press release from their own Able Label.
We will begin taking pre-orders for this very special limited edition release today and will continue to do so until October 31st. While a very small overrun may be made available to a few select retail outlets at a later date, this is a deluxe limited package and we will only be pressing this very special collection once. The only way to guarantee your own copy is to order from Domino Mart HERE. The stock is estimated to be delivered to customers at the beginning of January.
But here’s the special part: the first 600 orders will get a randomly selected book from the late Grant McLennan’s personal literary collection along with a specially-printed bookmark signed by Robert Forster, certifying their veracity. These books were collected by Grant through his lifetime and some were signed and dated by him on purchase (though no guarantee that every book will have said inscription...it will be the luck of the draw). Recipients will be invited to join the Grant McLennan Book Club over at www.go-betweens.net to share anecdotes and book reports on the copies they receive.
The Go-Betweens were formed by Robert Forster and Grant McLennan in Brisbane, Australia in 1978 while studying at the University of Queensland. The duo, augmented by various drummers and guests, recorded a series of acclaimed singles for seminal Australian labels such as their own Able Label and Missing Link. After a sojourn to London and Glasgow that led to their brief relationship with the legendary Postcard label, they were joined by their more permanent rhythmic counterpart, drummer Lindy Morrison, upon their return home prior to recording their debut album, Send Me A Lullaby. That release brought them to the attention of Rough Trade and a lengthy re-location to London. It was then the band recorded their breakthrough album, Before Hollywood. Produced by John Brand (Aztec Camera, The Waterboys), the album contains some of the group’s most beloved recordings, including McLennan’s “Cattle And Cane” and Forster’s “By Chance”. Shortly thereafter, McLennan would hand off bass playing duties to new member Robert Vickers, who joined the group prior to the recording of Spring Hill Fair.
During their initial phase, the group went on to record three additional albums for Beggars Banquet before splitting up in 1989 in spite of their greatest commercial success with the album 16 Lovers Lane. Forster and McLennan went on to extensive solo careers before reuniting in 2000 and making three more Go-Betweens album together, including the ARIA-winning finalé, Oceans Apart. Sadly, the reunion came to a sudden end when McLennan passed away on May 6th, 2006 from a heart attack and The Go-Betweens disbanded for good.
It would be hard to overstate the shadows cast across the musical landscape of the last three decades by the Go-Betweens’ self-ascribed “striped sunlight sound”. The duo of McLennan and Forster ranks alongside the best of the best songwriting partnerships, influencing younger musicians both expected (such as Belle & Sebastian who reference the group on “Shoot The Sexual Athlete”) and unexpected (as with the late, great Jay Reatard’s fiery cover of “Don’t Let Him Come Back”). This anthology is sure to provide inspiration to a new generation of musicians while providing a very special personal experience for the existing fans.
