Today Villagers share a beautiful animated video for the soulful ‘Hot Scary Summer’, which rakes over the break-up of a love affair blighted by ‘all the pretty young homophobes looking out for a fight’. The accompanying animated video was directed by Hi-Sim and you can watch it below.

‘Hot Scary Summer’ is taken from Villagers’ most recent album Darling Arithmetic - a breathtakingly beautiful, intimate piece of work entirely about love and relationships. Darling Arithmetic is the follow-up to Conor O’Brien’s debut, Becoming a Jackal, and its successor, {Awayland} - both hugely acclaimed and each nominated for The Mercury Music Prize, the latter winning Ireland’s Choice Music Prize.

Today Villagers announce an extensive North American tour for the autumn, firstly as special guest to Paul Weller, followed by dates with John Grant.

Villagers’  Conor O’Brien has also been invited to perform again as part of ‘In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited,’ which premiered at The Barbican in London in 2014. A landmark live tribute to the songs and music from the legendary filmmaker, David Lynch, the event will feature performances from Stuart Staples (Tindersticks), Jehnny Beth (Savages), Cibo Matto, Stealing Sheep, Sophia Brous and Kirin Callinan.  More info is available HERE. Martin Courtney | 09/01/15

Image: Martin Courtney photo by ShawnBrackbill

We're proud to announce the debut solo album from Real Estate songwriter and frontman Martin Courtney, titled Many Moons, out October 30th, 2015.

Many Moons is a bright, lush, 10-song collection of soft psychedelia that recalls the Kinks and Big Star even as it probes the depths of his own life as a family man, father, and touring musician. The album is squinting-at-the-sun bright, full of subtle introspection, an elliptical document of Courtney’s transition into family life and fatherhood, largely written while he was on the road touring Atlas, Real Estate’s third full length release.

As heard on Sirius XMU earlier this morning and accompanying today's album’s announcement is the video for first single "Northern Highway," directed by Rob Hatch-Miller and Puloma Basu. The video, shot recently in the bucolic summer landscape of upstate New York, can be viewed below.

His players on this album, including Jarvis Taveniere of Woods, who produced the album, and Julian Lynch and Matt Kallman, help bring a newfound sonic clarity, a brightness evidenced in "Northern Highway." Songs are rounded out with orchestral arrangements, as in the previously-shared "Vestiges," or the instrumental title track, a sweetly luxurious string and flute number that wouldn’t be out of place on a prime-era Pentangle record.

Courtney has long made a career of writing songs about what happens when your image of home is something you’re trying to hold on to, when the nostalgia that used to comfort you starts to feel unfamiliar. On Many Moons, he’s moved through that. It’s not so much a rejection of nostalgia, but an embrace of what’s ahead - an album-length meditation on his life right now, which is the type of exploration Courtney has become exceptional at.

Many Moons will be released on CD, standard and limited edition LP. The limited edition LP (of 500) is available to pre-order now from Domino Mart and contains an alternate cover with an embossed jacket featuring an artist logo designed by Robert Beatty, layout by Rob Carmichael of SEEN and coke-bottle clear color vinyl. All pre-orders from Domino or iTunes include instant downloads of "Northern Highway" and "Vestiges."

Geologist of Animal Collective had the following to say about the shows:
“Growing up in Baltimore, we’ve been seeing shows at 9:30 for over 20 years, back to when the building was called WUST.  First time was Pavement in 1994.  Always one of our favorite places to see shows, and always one of the most fun places to play a show.  Unless the power goes out.”

Panda Bear | 08/19/15

Image: Crosswords EP

Today, we're happy to announce Panda Bear’s latest five track collection, Crosswords EP. It sees wind in his sails as we follow him on his next wide-eyed quantum leap from this year’s acclaimed album Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper with the escalator firmly jammed on UP.

Crosswords EP is digitally out today, and physically on CD & 12” on November 13, 2015. All pre-orders from the Animal Collective Mart or Domino Mart come with an instant download of the five track Crosswords EP in MP3, 16-bit or 24-bit WAV files. Listen to "No Mans Land" below. The PBVSGR  deluxe  format is currently on sale for through both marts at $25 for a limited time in addition to the standard edition being on sale for $5.99 on iTunes and the deluxe edition for $9.99 on iTunes.

On Crosswords EP, Noah Lennox bequeaths five fresh and finely observed body-pop wonders - three new songs: “No Mans Land,” “Jabberwocky” and “Cosplay”  - and two re-castings of previous ore  - "The Preakness" - previously heard in spirited demo form on 2012's Tomboy LP boxset  -  and the whole shebang treasure-topped with a fresh take on his PBVSGR soul tour de force “Crosswords.”

Logic would appear to dictate, that if the collective noun for Ravens is a Wake, the collective noun for Panda Bear songs might surely be an Honesty.

The EP explores Noah Lennox's alchemical use of earthy base elements and life affirming ‘reports from the front’ to conjure up his trademark transports to the Goldilock's zone and comes appropriately enveloped in eye-popping fashion with artwork by Swiss artist Marco Papiro and with custom type-faces by Black Dice's Bjorn Copeland.

Aided on studio production duties by Sonic Boom, the five EP tracks take us tumbling down the metaphorical rabbit hole once more… as Noah's latest Adventures in Wonderland continue .

The effects are instant. Mighty morphing power arrangements emerge blinking from flick-flack intros that you'd swear were aided and abetted by the Mad Hatter himself. Time-lapse transitions spin past with a ‘blink and you'll miss it’ accuracy. Caffeinated rhythms, filtered from an apparently over-sized and uniquely patinated pot, spill out throughout. Zero point shudders of synthesized springs conspire with globular spongiform basslines, bustling at the seams. All circled by a hovering confidence of voices, oblivious to the chaos surrounding, conducting the controlled confusion of the improbably arranged tones and textures  - like Space Family Robinson yodels for the 21st century.

The Crosswords EP follows on the release of the PBVSGR Remixes EP compiling remixes from Pete Rock, Andy Stott and more.

Panda Bear’s Crosswords EP tracklisting:
1. Crosswords (EP mix)
2. No Mans Land
3. Jabberwocky
4. The Preakness
5. Cosplay

Alex G | 08/13/15

Image: Alex G press shot - photo credit Jeff Allen

Philadelphia’s Alex Giannascoli aka Alex G is pleased to announce his forthcoming new full-length album and his first for Domino, Beach Music, on October 9, 2015.  Listen to the album’s debut track ‘Bug’ below.

Beach Music was written and recorded in Giannascoli’s apartment, between the Fall of 2014 and the Spring of 2015, during breaks from touring with the likes of Speedy Ortiz, Cymbals Eat Guitars and Elvis Depressedly. While its predecessors often came in uninterrupted bursts—from his head to his Bandcamp page in a matter of hours and days—Beach Music was shaped in part by Giannascoli adapting to life as a touring musician. Songs were written within months of one another rather than all at once, with influences ranging from noise music to piano-based laments to Southern rock to the rhythmic focus of techno—whatever he happened to be most interested in at the time. “Every song is coming from a different place,” he says. “It branches off in all these directions, but it has its own sound. It’s not something I do intentionally, but I’m the common thread."

The album, his seventh full-length, follows on from previous beloved albums DSU (Orchid Tapes), Trick, and Rules, which have led to a fervent cult fan base, a number of Artist To Watch designations from outlets such as Fader and Rolling Stone, and a dedicated live audience who sing along with every word.

Georgia | 08/04/15

Image: Georgia Press shot 2

Georgia’s eponymous debut album, out this Friday, is now available to stream HERE.

Written, performed and produced by Georgia in its entirety and recorded in her own home-studio, Georgia is the product of two years of obsessive work, but also a young lifetime of voracious music listening.

Elements of the glacial yet hyper-melodic tone of early 00's grime, sweltering, mid-summer west London dub and ragga, sophisticated pop, first wave post-punk agitation, the formative influence of Missy Elliott and the high-concept, illuminated sound-design work of contemporary artists such as The Knife and Hudson Mohawke run through Georgia, a record that reveals new layers of intrigue and ingenuity with every listen.

You can watch clips of Georgia in her studio talking through each track on her album, HERE.

Georgiawill be available on CD, LP, Deluxe LP and digitally. The Deluxe LP comes with a bonus 10”.  You can pre-order the album via Dom Mart or iTunes.  Pre-orders will feature 5 instant grats - Intro, Move Systems, Be Ache, Nothing Solutions and Digits.

Georgia will be playing a free show in Brooklyn this coming Thursday, Aug 6th, in support of her album's release. Also joining the bill are Ricky Eat Acid, The Range, and Samantha Urbani (DJ set). The show at Babys All Right and is open freely to the public. More info here.

Matthew E. White | 07/21/15

Image: MatthewEWhiteVisionvideo

Matthew E. White has shared a new music video for "Vision" from his album Fresh Blood released earlier this year.  The groovy, horn-driven track gets a heartwarming film treatment from filmmaker Clara Aranovich and features Edi Gathegi (Twilight, Justified, X-Men) and Caitlin Stasey (Reign, Please Like Me, Neighbours). Nowness, who co-produced the video, is streaming it on their site or watch it below.

Along with the video comes the premiere of a track from the Fresh Blood: No Skin, a new deluxe full-length featuring a minimalist mix of the critically acclaimed album, minus strings, horns or choir, previously only available on the Fresh Blood deluxe vinyl edition. Fresh Blood: No Skin will be available digitally this Friday, July 24.  Stream the ‘No Skin’ version of "Vision" below the video.

Director Clara Aranovich said of the "Vision" music video:

This track captivated me immediately upon first hearing it on an indie radio station in LA and I knew instantly I wanted to direct a music video for it. I’m generally more drawn towards narrative videos and had been doing some research into the life experiences of the visually impaired (believe it or not, it was not the title "Vision" that inspired the idea of exploring blindness but rather a coincidence). The song lends itself so beautifully to the growth and conclusion of a complete story that the writing process was breezy.  And, as is the norm with me, what started as an intimate realistic story turned into something a bit absurd and surrealist and about so much more for me.”

Matthew E. White will continue touring beginning next week in support of Fresh Blood. See all dates below.

Matt Mondanile’s Ducktails new album St. Catherine is out this Friday, July 24th, and ahead of its release, you can stream it here now.

St. Catherine is the fifth full-length under his solo moniker, is a finely-honed collection of baroque pop songs that take the blissful, cascading melodic fretwork that Mondanile has made his signature with both Ducktails and his other band, Real Estate, and applies it to songs of considerable new emotional heft and dynamic range. Watch the videos for "Headbanging in the Mirror" and "Surreal Exposure" below.
