Monsters, which tells the tale of two strangers attempting to make their way to the safety of the US borders across an area of Mexico that's been "infected" by "something", isn't your conventional, run of the mill, sci-fi film. Instead of opting for the typical big explosions and extra-terrestrial uber-violence, director Gareth Edwards decided to create in Monsters something far more thoughtful and emotionally resonant.

To match the experimental tone of the film, Jon Hopkins, renowned for his compositional talents and electronic music explorations was appropriately drafted in to compose the film's soundtrack. Using his trademark electronics as a platform from which to build with, Hopkins expanded his sound for the Monsters soundtrack, by utilizing and processing string parts performed by legendary arranger Davide Rossi, to create a distinctive soundworld, that works in perfect synchronization with the striking imagery contained in the film.
